THE SIN NATURE
The sin nature...In the second Romans class we covered an outline of the Book of Romans. The works of the sin nature were covered in Chapters 1-5, which we just finished, and the Sin Nature is covered in Chapters 6-8, which we just started.
The whole world through Adam is guilty of sin. Every one, not one is righteous. This was our old self, who we were. The root of who we were, before being born again, we were born with the sin nature. If you do not know Jesus, this is still who you are. The manifestation in our lives of this is our sin, whatever they are, lying, stealing, drinking, sex, drugs, lust, pride, etc. Living to please our Self and not God. Living life without Jesus is the problem. Our salvation, our new birth, comes through the blood of Jesus and Jesus only. If we struggle with Sin, then we need victory over the sin nature. If God says we can do all things, then we can do all things. Our victory over the sin nature was won at the cross, the yoke was broken, the sin nature was rendered powerless by His blood sacrifice. The Son has set us free. Amen.
"i can do all things through Christ who strenghteneth me." Philippians 4:13
The sin nature has been made of non effect, powerless, but not executed. It still lurks about to remind us of our old self, like Paul's thorn in the flesh, but do not touch it. Pay it no mind.
"Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing and i will receive you." 2 Corinthians 6:17 (2 Corinthians 6:14-18 are worth reading)
When we are born again in Christ Jesus, we are a new creature. He will transform us from the inside out. We need to fill our hearts with His word. Check out Psalm 119:11
"Therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17
We have the power to choose, to take authority over the sin nature. To choose Jesus over our self. We must be ever prepared for the battle. We need to stay in the Word of God. We cannot just tack Jesus onto our old selves, we must become altogether new creatures in Him. Our life has got to testify to who we are in Jesus. We cannot have our feet in both canoes.
"A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways." James 1:8
Luke 5:36-39 Jesus says that we cannot mix old and new together, and that being resistant to the new most will prefer the old comfortable, sinful ways.....sad.
And finally, being new creatures in our Lord Jesus Christ, we are Ambassadors for Him. We need to represent Him in our lives, we need to bring Him to the lost, dead, dying, faithless world. We need to live for Him. He is who we are. Amen. We need to produce fruit.
"Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us, we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God." 2 Corinthians 5:20
"Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so, every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit." Matthew 7:16-18
Dead in our flesh and made alive together with Him, He nailed our sins to the cross. Colossians 2:13-15
"For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith" 1 John 5:4 Amen
