THE LION AND THE LAMB
"And one of the elders saith unto me, weep not, behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof." Revelation 5:5
The Lion of the tribe of Judah and the Root of David is Jesus. A priest (Jesus) came from the tribe of Judah where no priest had come before. "For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah, of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood." Hebrews 7:14
Why does this imagery of Jesus as a Lion have such a powerful impact on us? It is mentioned very few times in the New Testament. Think about it. Lions are referred to as the King of the jungle, King of beasts, powerful, courageous, fearless, fierce, bold, majestic, meat eating beasts. Could it be that when we come to Jesus with a repentant heart and confess our sin, when Jesus becomes Lord of our lives and renders the sin nature powerless, Jesus conquers our jungle of sin, our bestiality, devouring the sin that eats away at our flesh...He becomes "Which in His times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of King and Lord of Lords." 1 Timothy 6:15 Then the lion can represent the boldness of true believers, roaring when seeking prey...
The images of Jesus as the Lion and the Lamb have been on my heart of late. The mighty Lion and the gentle Lamb. What about the Lamb? "And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship Him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." Revelation 13:8 God knew it forever.. it is amazing. God knows everything from the beginning to the end, now.
The Lamb is mentioned all over the Old Testament and the New. A lamb was a sacrificial animal in the Old Testament. A gentle creature supplying the needs of others. Food(considered a great delicacy Amos 6:4), clothing, patient, playful. They had to be protected from wild beasts. The opposite of a lion. Jesus became our sacrificial lamb. He willingly went to the cross to reconcile us to the Father. To become our atonement, a human sacrifice when an animal would not do. Praise God. It was all planned out before time began and is a perfect plan. "But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot." 1 Peter 1:19 Then, interpreting the cross in the light the resurrection, it is important to emphasize, "If Christ be not raised your faith is in vain, ye are yet in your sins." 1 Corinthians 15:17 Praise God for the perfect plan. Jesus life, death and resurrection, amen.
God is so awesome and can do anything. Look at me, i am 50 years old, i just left home and family to follow Jesus. I am living on the other side of the country and God is providing for all my needs. From the moment i came to Him, He has never left me or forsaken me and He never will. He has a plan for me and i trust fully in Him. Is it all a bowl of cherries? No it is not. The trials come but i can face them with my God. i am His and He is mine. Am i going to have rough moments, trials, (read 1st Peter) yes, and they will grow me in my faith and trust in Him. Amen. i can truly say that "i can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Philippians 4:13 and i can continue to rejoice even when troubles comes. i am truly blessed, i am truly grateful to our God for all things. Amen, amen and amen...
"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them." Isaiah 11:6
