"I WAS IN THE SPIRIT....." REVELATION 1:10
If someone tells you they have read the Bible, dismissing it as if they know it, they really haven't read it and they really do not know it. The Bible is a living, breathing testament, the living word of God that never dies and reveals more truth of Jesus to us each time we read it. There is so much to know and so much God wants to reveal to us in our lives, we will never know all of it. i am in awe of what he is showing me now as i reread and study in the Spirit, the Book of Revelation, the unveiling of Jesus Christ, line upon line and precept upon precept. This means an adventure in the word of God that leads me to scriptures throughout the Bible. Have been studying for two weeks and am at Revelation 1:10, amen... What a blessing.
Here is some of what John experienced being in the Spirit on the Isle of Patmos. His revelation born in isolation.
"i was in the Spirit on the Lord's day and heard behind me a great voice as of a trumpet." Revelation 1:10
Simply stated, the beginning of the unveiling..
"And immediately i was in the spirit and behold a throne was set in heaven and one sat on the throne." Revelation 4:2
This reveals the end of the church age and the beginning of the 70th week of Daniel, or Jacob's Trouble.
"So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness and i saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast full of names of blasphemy having seven heads and ten horns." Revelation 17:3
Here we have the unveiling of the political and religious aspects of the anti-christ.
"And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain and shewed me that greater city the holy Jerusalem descending out of heaven from God." Revelation 21:10
And the culmination of all things in the unveiling of the New Jerusalem. Great stuff of God..amen.
All through the old Testament times, the Holy Spirit of God rested upon people and they prophesied and were anointed to bring good news and do God's will (Isaiah 61:1, Numbers 11:25, Numbers 24:2, Judges 3:10 etc.).
And now, as saved, blood bought, Christians, who have exhibited faith in Jesus and walk in repentance, holiness, righteousness, forgiveness... the Spirit of God dwells in us. This is huge, and absolutely amazing. It is exciting and brings a healthy fear of the Lord with it.
The Holy Spirit of God, perfect in every way, Holy and righteous, dwelling in us and flowing out of us through the flawed filter of the flesh. This is why we must be so much in prayer and God's word today more than ever, so we can bring God's word and will to a lost, dark and dying world in the way in which God wills it, not how we want or don't want to.
"Watch ye and pray lest ye enter into temptation. The Spirit truly is ready but the flesh is weak." Mark 14:38, Matthew 26:41.
The Spirit is ready, it is predisposed to perfection, it can be no less, but we are flawed in the flesh. The flesh is weak, impotent and powerless as it relates to righteousness. The Spirit in us is impeded by the natural man.
God says to watch and pray, watch and pray against the temptation to drowsiness and false security in this present age. Pray that we may watch, beg of God by his grace to keep us awake, since there is such occasion for temptation. When we are drowsy in the worship of God, we should pray, as a good Christian once did, “The Lord deliver me from this sleepy devil!” Lord, quicken thou me in thy way. Watch and pray against the further temptation we may be assaulted with, watch and pray lest this sin prove the inlet of many more. When we find ourselves entering into temptation, we have need to watch and pray.
"This i say then, Walk in the Spirit and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh and these are contrary the one to the other so that ye cannot do the things that ye would." Galatians 5:16-17
Praise God for his love, grace and mercy upon us. For his continued revelation of Jesus for those who diligently seek him... i love you Lord, and i pray you give me wisdom and knowledge, spiritual understanding, strength and courage to stand in the days ahead. Lord, please find me serving you unto my last breath, please find me faithful, amen.
